Number one on Tim and Mat's list of five all-important house rules was to fuse industrial with sleek. The rest of their rules, as well as Beaumonts' What's My Style - Urban Industrial helped create a useful roadmap for the teams to bring the style to life.
The boys asked for timber, terrazzo and steel, cool blues and greens as well as Melbourne style.
Right from the very first moment you enter the house, Katie & Alex make a strong industrial impression by blending industrial-inspired surfaces, a feature utility wall and on-trend terrazzo tiles.
But it's the main bathroom, with a tiled feature wall imitating edgy steel, set to complement rugged concrete look tiles on the remaining walls and floor, that truly delivers on the theme. This style is continued into the laundry, where the edgy look is softened by the warmth of the timber grain cabinetry.
Lisa and Andy bring the cool blues into the ensuite with their choice of a vivid hexagonal tile extending up the feature wall. Allowing the tiles to continue up most = but not all - of the wall height accentuates the distinctive shape. Paying close attention to the rules set by Tim & Mat, Lisa & Andy pair their blue feature with terrazzo look tiles on the remaining surfaces.
