The Benefits of Vinyl Flooring
There are so many really cool things about Luxury Vinyl flooring planks under the group of Hard Flooring, but the top 3 are:
- Durability: If you have an active and adventurous household, vinyl flooring holds up to all the heavy traffic, like in kitchens, hallways and entranceways.
- Water-resistant: Yes, luxury vinyl flooring is water-resistant! It’s still a good idea to clean up spills immediately, but you can be confident that a little puddle will not hurt your floor.
- Affordable: Vinyl flooring has a much more attractive price tag than other hard flooring types, such as hybrid flooring, laminate flooring, and engineered timber flooring. It’s oh-so-tempting!
Then there are a few more benefits that are great, too, like; easy cleaning and installation.
Areas That Best Suit Vinyl Flooring
If we were matchmaking your rooms with the ideal floors, we would choose Vinyl Flooring in your hallway, kitchen and open-plan areas to keep a consistent feel throughout your home.
These spaces add up to the biggest square meterage and are the highest cost for flooring in your house. So choosing the best value-for-money flooring with the highest durability makes sense.
Vinyl Flooring Installation
We always recommend luxury vinyl flooring to be installed by a licensed installer. But if you are doing it yourself, carefully follow the instructions from the Installation Guide.
- Be Super Prepared!
- Measure up the room
- Make sure you have the correct tools for installation
- Prepare the surface
- Use the proper protective equipment
- Install the substrate layer and dry it before proceeding (concrete, timber or tile layers). It also needs to be flat. It may require sealing or further levelling, depending on what type of substrate you are using. All substrates, glues and sealers must be compatible and suitable for installing vinyl planks.
- When your brand-new Luxury Vinyl Flooring arrives, it must arrive 24 to 48 hours early and be stored horizontally on a flat surface in a cool, dry place. It needs to get all cosy in its new home and acclimate to that new space. So, open up those boxes and let them adjust to the room’s temperature.
- Now it’s time to Glue. Ensure you use a good quality permanent hard-set glue with a moisture-resistant barrier.
- Make sure the planks are installed in a straight line. Do not use a wall as a guide; it may not be straight!
- Get out those measurements you made earlier and cut the planks to the lengths that best suit the room. HOT TIP: Avoiding small planks at the ends of a room looks so much better.
- Lay brick-style pattern with staggered joints approximately 300mm apart.
- Please pause and get assistance if you’re unsure what you are doing.
Vinyl Flooring - FAQ's
What is vinyl flooring?
Vinyl flooring is a tough and durable floor covering with a dense Luxury Vinyl Base suitable for a direct stick glue-down application over a sound substrate. It is designed with a realistic timber look and a textured feel, so it feels as good as it looks. Beaumonts have a luxury vinyl range in a plank form, with a wear layer for durability and UV coating for protection from sun, scratches and stains. Read our luxury vinyl flooring guide for more information.
What are the different types of vinyl flooring?
Beaumonts have carefully selected a Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) range that looks like hardwood timber flooring. This type of vinyl flooring has easy installation and has more of an authentic timber look than other types of vinyl. Other vinyl types include:
- Sheet vinyl, comes in large rolls and can be suited to fit the shape of a room… similar concept to carpet.
- Vinyl tiles, come in a variety of sizes and have the added benefit of being laid in different patterns
- Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT), are similar to LVP but they look similar to ceramic or porcelain tiles.
Is vinyl flooring waterproof?
Not all vinyl flooring is waterproof, but the good news is that Beaumont’s range of Luxury Vinyl Planks (LVP) are water-resistant! However, they must not be used in bathrooms, shower cubicles, laundries or toilets as water can seep through seams and edges, which won’t protect the substrate if there’s lots of water.
Importantly, a plank can always be waterproof on its own, but that doesn’t necessarily mean your floor will be fully waterproof once laid (unlike a tiled floor). That’s why we say water-resistant when talking about hard flooring (in fact, it’s a requirement in the building industry)!
Can vinyl flooring be installed over existing flooring?
Yes, vinyl flooring can be installed over existing flooring. Our Luxury Vinyl Planks can be installed over concrete, plywood, cement sheeting, tiles or cork. The area just needs to be dry, flat, secure, and in really good condition. If you are installing over tiles, they need to be secure and grout lines must be filled in.
How to clean and maintain vinyl flooring?
Luxury Vinyl Flooring care and maintenance is simply just a wipe, zip, mop and rub!
- Wipe away spills straight away with an absorbent cloth.
- Zip a stick vacuum or soft bristle broom over your floor to get rid of daily dirt and dust.
- Mop your floor with a moist or static mop with a low alkaline cleaner (HOT TIP: we recommend BONA floor care products).
- Lightly rub your floor with a soft cloth to remove scuff marks.
Extra tips: Always use soft bristles on brushes, and soft cloths and mops, and never use harsh chemicals, wax, polish, and keep pet’s claws trimmed. Make sure you use floor protectors under chairs and table legs and definitely don’t slide furniture, use safe lifting methods. Don’t underestimate the power of a mat at entry points.
