The Block 2023
Married from SA
Kristy & Brett
Get ready to meet the spirited couple, Kristy and Brett, hailing from Adelaide, SA, whose ten years of togetherness and three years of marriage have cultivated a dynamic partnership primed for action and drama on The Block. Unafraid to stir the pot with forthright opinions, they bring a structured approach to the unpredictability of Charming Street, eagerly embracing the excitement of the unknown as Kristy puts it, "In our roles back in Adelaide we have done it for so long, and you don't get out of your comfort zone. But with this, there is such an unknown, and we are looking forward to that."
With their own house in Adelaide, a history of successful careers in power and energy, and a shared knack for planning, Kristy and Brett are poised to bring their skills to The Block, blending their competitive spirit and dedication. Kristy, a determined project manager, envisions a home that marries Victorian and modern contemporary styles, unafraid to roll up her sleeves and get hands-on. Brett, a safety advisor with a surprising past as a tiler, embraces the challenge with a sense of mystery, stating, "I'm a former tiler, but I don't want to tell people that. I want to keep it a surprise."

WEEK 2:
STUDIO BATHROOM
Kristy and Brett faced a challenge in selecting the perfect shower screen, making the judges' critique of their ultimate "chunky" industrial choice a tough pill to swallow. The judges felt it didn't quite match the envisioned "day spa" style. Darren expressed concern about the lack of cohesion among the elements and advised them to establish a more uniform style. On the other hand, Marty was blunt in his assessment, finding the room lacking in memorability.
Marty Fox |
“It's a little day-spay - To me the tiles... they are very similar. You know, it's a little bit bland.” |
Darren Palmer |
“We've got something like a contemporary shaker door, Morrocan tile over there, and then we've got hard industrial lines" |
Shaynna Blaze |
“It feels like some little Moroccan riad you've walked into. - The shower screen takes away the spa feel, you've got the beautiful arch, the little sit, and a big chunky industrial screen” |

WEEK 4:
BATHROOM / POWDER ROOM
Kristy is so in love with her Guest Bathroom she says she's "not bothered" for the judges feedback anyways, but as per the format of the show she gets it.
There's lots of "woahs" and "ooh la las" from the judges and Marty goes as far to say that Kristy and Brett could be "in a league of their own" with five bedrooms and a full bathroom on the bottom floor.
Marty Fox |
"This is a really great aesthetic. The feature lighting in the niche, and the vanity" |
Darren Palmer |
"I love those KitKat finger tiles. They're contemporary." |
Shaynna Blaze |
"It's glamorous, I love this beautiful sense of length and linear lines without it being overwhelming." |

WEEK 7:
KITCHEN & LAUNDRY
Despite initially expecting a higher expense, Kristy and Brett invested $29,878 in their kitchen, a decision that proved worthwhile. Darren's enthusiastic "Ba BOOM!" upon entry sets the tone, with his admiration for the benchtop bordering on obsession. The judges share the love for the white cabinetry, its harmonious connection to the stunning stone bench, and the elegant wine fridges. Their greatest enthusiasm is reserved for the rise and fall splashback, described as "really cool" by Neale. While they find fault in the dining chair scale and last-minute stool choice and aren't impressed with the laundry functionality, these issues are minor in the grand scheme, as the judges deem the overall result a significant success.
Neale Whitaker |
"It is really refreshing to see an all white kitchen, we rarely see it this days" |
Darren Palmer |
"Yum! I want to meld with it." |
Shaynna Blaze |
"This is so now, but will be now for quite a long time. We've got everything!" |

WEEK 10:
UPSTAIRS BATHROOM
House 3 fell short of expectations, with none of the boxes being ticked. The three judges express their dismay upon entering the renovated room. Darren, upon opening the door and taking a quick look at the chaos inside, simply states, "Nope." He decisively shuts the door. Despite the team's expenditure of $28,603, it's evident that it fell short. Shaynna notices some post-it notes and promptly crumples them in her hand, discarding them in the bin as she declares, "I don't want to hear excuses." The contents of those notes will remain a mystery.
Neale Whitaker |
"It's very unfinished" |
Darren Palmer |
"Nope. If only they knew a good tiler." |

WEEK 11:
BACKYARD, POOL & SPA
Kristy and Brett invested $40,649 in cash into their yard and are relieved that the challenging week has come to an end. Brett admits, "I don't know if we love it." The judges share a similar sentiment, with Dave expressing astonishment at the lacklustre nature of the space, confessing, "I'm actually a little bit bored here." He criticizes the design for being nondescript, finds fault with the paving, and deems the BBQ area bland.
Marty Fox |
"It's very unfinished" |
Darren Palmer |
"Yum. They toned it down to this Travertine. But that sort of creaminess brings down the orange. It's really beautiful" - Talking about the original house's bricks and pavers. |
