Selling Houses Australia 2023

Greystanes NSW

In 1968 Richard and Corinne bought their house for just under ten thousand pounds. Their house has served as a wonderful family home for over fifty years and now that their children have children, it’s time to sell and downsize.

The house has been listed for the last few months with little interest and it’s no wonder why. This 50s home hasn’t been touched since it was built! Everything is still in its original condition. From the floral wallpapered master bed to the pastel pink and blue bathroom this house is well-worn. Over the last few years, Richard and Corinne chose to invest their extra money into travel and priceless memories with the house sitting on the back burner. The couple is looking to sell their family home so they can make the move down south to the ACT so they can spend more time and be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Bathroom - Before

Families looking at this home with young kids want to know they can bath their kids easily. It’s a lot to cram into a small space, but we have created a false wall and recessed the cistern and plumbing services on one side which makes the space more streamlined. We also installed a raised window to accommodate the bath/shower.

Instead of a complete, pre-designed bathroom package, Wendy has created a new bathroom from scratch. The old-school style of the home influenced her design but didn’t dictate it. There can be a tendency to make small spaces very plain and pale to try and create an illusion of space, but a well-planned colour palate can still be bold without feeling cramped or overcrowded. A mix of tile size, texture and colours was complimented with a white basin, green vanity, and brushed brass hardware.

Interior - Before

The house wasn’t large, but it still felt very disconnected. There was no flow from the living and kitchen/dining areas. Wendy wanted to work with the period of the home, so she picked some features – the yellows, the bedroom pendant lights, the curves, the open plan access into the living room - and worked them into the design. The new entry into the kitchen mirrors the existing opening from the hall to the living room archway.

For the flooring, a contemporary look with a nod to the history of the home, so she chose the dark brown Oak board.

The bedrooms received a total re-fresh, with a nod to the history of the house.

Exterior

The most important changes happened on the veranda. We replaced the old structure with a new one so that it felt more contemporary and welcoming. It’s not a 900 mm drop-off from the edge of the veranda, so we didn’t need a safety rail. New laser light sheets above were installed to help brighten it up. And in a nod to Wendy’s design, Dennis installed a retro style screen at the end, which was painted out in our yellow accent colour…

The front yard didn’t need too much work. The house façade was repainted, and Dennis pared back the existing plants and replaced them with some more modern varieties.

Den laid decorative porcelain tiles in the porch, effortlessly drawing the eye, the Sync Circle Green tiles create a striking effect that can be used on both walls and floors.
