The last two years have been particularly challenging for this couple, who have done their best to keep the children happy but have faced life and death every day. It’s little wonder they have become disconnected from the clutter that has continued to grow around them. Without a doubt the most ambitious challenge Space Invaders has ever faced, can the team drag this family out of trouble and reconnect them with their home?

Kitchen - Before

The family's kitchen is old-fashioned and cramped, requiring them to shift things around to cook and operate efficiently. The cabinets and appliances are clearly outdated, possibly dating back 50 years, and could qualify for a museum exhibit. Moreover, the attic is filled with unnecessary clutter, adding to the chaos of the kitchen. As healthcare workers, the family has devoted their lives to caring for others, resulting in the accumulation of a significant amount of stuff over the years. Consequently, they have not been able to host a reunion for over nine years, with the clutter taking a toll on both them and their children.

Kitchen - After

Dom and Nina now enjoy a renovated open-plan dining area that features a built-in dining table, heaps of new cabinets to store everything behind closed doors, and a knocked-down separating wall. The outdated vinyl benchtop has been replaced with an extra-long stone and new appliances have been added. Motorised roller blinds have also been installed to control sunlight from the out-of-reach windows.

In addition, a new feature wall has been added that matches Beaumont's green heritage tiles Toki Green Listello Embossed Mix, which has been laid throughout the kitchen to complement the federation style of the house.

Lounge Room - Before

The lounge room is a dim and uninviting space, completely overrun with clutter. The family's son's wardrobe takes up valuable real estate in the room, and every available surface is crammed with belongings. "This house is suffocating," Peter commented. Additionally, there is a clear divide between the lounge room and the kitchen, with a wall separating the two spaces. The family uses a picnic table as their dining area, located awkwardly in the centre of the lounge room. They are urgently seeking a solution for a proper dining area.

Lounge Room - After

The kitchen and lounge room have been merged into a spacious area by Cherie and her renovation team. The installation of durable vinyl floorboards, a new French-style sliding door to replace the old one, a modern air conditioner, and contemporary lighting fixtures, as well as new furniture, has transformed the family's living space. The result is a vibrant and inviting heart of the home.

Lucien's Room

This 13-year-old now has a fabulous new room thanks to a functional storage space for their clothes and belongings, along with a striking yellow accent wall and matching drawers that have been fixed up with a fresh coat of yellow paint. The room has been completely transformed from dull to delightful.
