Bec and Julian’s lives changed dramatically when the next-door apartment block burnt down, and Julian suffered a heart attack. The couple and their young son Casper are still traumatised by the events, resulting in the family home now drowning in clutter.

Peter pushes Bec to stop deflecting difficult emotions, while Cherie redesigns the apartment to be family-friendly, and Angie breathes new life into lost treasures.

Kitchen - Before

The once-crowded kitchen was impossible to move around in, being Julian's home office. Bec and Julian love the apartment's original 1930s art deco features, and Cherie wants to improve that heritage feel by replacing the 90s mirrored splashback in the kitchen with our 30's inspired subway tile.

"The patterned heritage tile is perfect for the era, so I'm just hoping Bec and Julian love it, as much as I do", said Cherie.

Kitchen - After

The kitchen no longer doubles as Julian's home office, instead is the heart of the home it always should have been.

"Thank you so much, it's incredible!", Bec exclaimed.

Bec and Julian were particularly excited by the blinds and the splashbacks, the tiles, the new worktop and Cherie's surprise addition to their kitchen - a coffee machine.

Also got extra preparation room on the trolley, and more importantly, they now got that dedicated dining table so they can sit as a family together, which has been upcycled with adhesive vinyl and tiling by Angie.

Backroom & Hallway - Before

Cherie's got a similar plan in mind for the floors as she did with the kitchen. Cherie found the floorboards, not in the best condition, a touch beyond floor sanding and polishing, so decided to put a beautiful decorative tile on the floor all the way up and down the hallway, kitchen and back room.

Backroom & Hallway - After

Tile to the front door and a ton of storage down the backroom as well. Now, the bright pendants and the statement Flourish Motif Blue Textured Tiles enforce that 1930s heritage feel Bec and Julian love. Family moments in pictures on the wall.

The backroom was transformed into a Home office where Julian can work, a really functional space, instead of interrupting family life in the kitchen. A really functional space. "I do think it's important to have a line between workspace and home space", said Cherie.

Casper's room

Was simply used for storage because of nightmares since the fire, he was sleeping with his parents instead. Now is a place where he can sleep on his own, but also have a friend over. Crucially with new fire alarms, it's his own personal space where he can feel safe.
