Selling in the City - Leichhardt NSW

Selling in the City 2022

Leichhardt NSW

Scott and Meghann met and fell in love in Leichhardt and have lived in their 2-bed Victorian cottage for the better part of 14 years. In that time Scott has taken on many DIY projects around the house, but it’s never quite felt finished, and as their daughter Scarlett is getting older, they’re feeling the pressure to move to a bigger home.

So, they’ve called on the Selling in the City team; Landscape Artist Paddy Milne and award-winning Interior Designer Rosie Morley, to bring their 140yr old cottage into the present, with a modern-day makeover, so they can afford their dream home.

Scott and Meghann met and fell in love in Leichhardt and have lived in their 2-bed Victorian cottage for the better part of 14 years. They were able to purchase the property in 2008, and eventually welcomed daughter Scarlett into the family. The original part of the home is around 140 years old so there’s been plenty of work to do, and Scott has taken great pride in taking on a lot of this work himself. Unfortunately, the couple still think their home feels ‘unfinished’, so they’ve enlisted the help of Rosie & Paddy to bring their crumbling old cottage into the present, with a modern-day makeover, in order to afford a larger home as the family continues to grow.

Scott & Meghann’s cottage is currently valued at $1.5M, but to achieve their dream, they need $1.7M +. Rosie & Paddy have a $90K budget to make this happen, but before they can get started, they need to tap into the beating heart of Leichhardt in order to understand who’s buying here and what they’re looking for in a home.

Affectionately known as Sydney’s ‘Little Italy’ and just 5kms from the CBD, Leichhardt lives up to its reputation, with many Italian shops, café’s and trattorias, and a strong community spirit still alive to this day.

Inspired by the Italian custom and culture present within the suburb, they explore some classic Greco-Roman design at the Sydney Library and embrace wellness and relaxation at a Roman bath house-inspired spa - a practice pioneered by the Romans themselves.

Bathroom - Before

After visiting the spa and being inspired by the way the Romans pioneered bathing as a luxury experience, Rosie designs a bathroom that is much more focused on relaxation rather than a utility room. She removes the laundry and installs an oversized, sculptural bathtub and floor to ceiling tiles to create the illusion of endless space.

Inspired by Leichhardt’s outdoor dining scene, Paddy re-worked the outdoor seating so it’s more conducive to social conversation, and emulates the classic Italian piazza with terraced garden beds featuring lavender, olives, orange flowering aloe vera, and fragrant pink jasmine.
