Selling in the City 2022
Newton NSW
Newtown is the beating heart of the Inner West and Rosie and Paddy must find out exactly why that is, so they can transform Sam and Simon’s faux Victorian terrace into something from the 21st century. Along the way they’ll find the inspiration they need to help Sam and Simon finally sell their first family home and live out their dream of moving to the green pastures of the Southern Highlands.
The Selling in the City team, Landscape Artist Paddy Milne and award-winning Interior Designer Rosie Morley, set out to capture the essence of Newtown. A stroll through Sydney’s oldest university cements how contemporary design can complement original architecture.
Newtown is the beating heart of Sydney’s inner west, the epicentre for self-expression. A place that welcomes all forms of creativity, open-mindedness and curiosity.
Sam and Simon are a young couple with a toddler and baby on the way. They’ve called Newtown home for the last four years, but with their family expanding their two-bedroom Victorian terrace is starting to feel a little cramped, with little yard for the kids to play. So, their sights are set on a larger home in the regional Southern Highlands of NSW.
But, for their dream to become a reality, they need to raise the value of their current home from $1,500,000 to $1,700,000.
With an $80,000 budget, Rosie and Paddy need to celebrate and embrace all that is Newtown and give the terrace its own sense of identity.
Bathroom - Before
Rosie celebrates the kitchen’s original red brick and fireplace by contrasting it with a sleek and contemporary design. The same treatment goes for the “pokie” faux bathroom, adding dark stone and high-end finishes to create a luxurious feel.

Paddy’s main problem with the backyard was its lack of presence and size. To open it up and give the appearance of a bigger space with more depth, Paddy gets creative by installing mirrors at the back of the property to trick the naked eye. He removes the Astro turf and lays Charcoal pavers in a staggered fashion to a landing spot in the centre of the yard.
