Selling Houses Australia 2022

Rosebrook NSW

Selling a home is never easy…selling your parents' home is harder still. Jane's mother, Bernadette, passed away unexpectedly and Jane was left in possession of the house… the house she grew up in. Set on a massive 42 acres of land the retro 70s style Spanish home was turning buyers away. Jane and her family desperately needed to sell the house as the maintenance of the property alone was an additional cost they couldn't afford.

The Selling Homes Australia team Wendy Moore & Dennis Scott, led by real estate expert Andrew Winter, renovated the property to boost its appeal. But, would that be enough for a successful sale?

After a few open homes and some bleak buyer feedback, the home went for auction and was passed in. Jane knew the house needed renovating, but didn't know where to start and was convinced that the large land size made it a very valuable property.

This property hadn't changed since it was built in the 70s, the purple bathroom, galley kitchen and retro carpet all had to go! Wendy started on some major renovations for the property and focussed her attention on re-configuring the floor plan, updating the bathroom and overall styling.

Let's Renovate!

Unfortunately the budget didn’t stretch to do a full bathroom renovation, however Wendy was still able to update and refresh the 70s style retro purple bathroom, sink and all!

The bathroom already had a functioning floorplan. New Eternal Taupe floor tiles made a massive difference, instantly transforming the bathroom for little expense. Respraying the existing tiles white and updating the hardware to stunning Champagne tapware really made this look like a brand new bathroom.

Kitchen - Before

The problem with this house was the floorplan – the existing kitchen had a small galley kitchen that had no connection to the house.

To solve this Wendy installed a new kitchen where the existing dining room was. The placement of the new kitchen now connects the existing lounge room making this an open plan area for cooking and entertaining guests. Wendy decided to retain the galley kitchen as it can now be used as a functioning butlers pantry.

Terrace - Before

The hero area of this property is the back patio – a space that was completely closed off from the view. Dennis removed the brick wall enclosure and overgrown pergola and trimmed back the jacaranda tree.

After opening up the space to the wonderful views, Dennis re-tiled the patio, replacing the old mission brown with a lighter and softer Warm Ash Tumbled Travertine. This space now integrates seamlessly with the new kitchen as an extended outdoor entertaining area.

Successful Sale!

After Andrew Winter, Wendy Moore and Dennis Scott arrived to help, the “mauve hell-hole” bathroom was finally gone, transformed on a budget to look like a $20k makeover! The rest of the house was renovated to look contemporary and more inviting, so much so that a previously interested local family bought the home for $1,640,000.
