Lina and Sokhoeurt's Hamptons style makeover
Sisters Amara, Sokhem and Sokhey have moved out of their family home, but left behind so much clutter it's choking their parents' (Lina and Sokhoeurt) home. The Space Invaders team; Peter Walsh, Cherie Barber and Lucas Callaghan, come to the rescue to help the family declutter and renovate the space for the future.
Amara, Sokhem and Sokhey's parents are Cambodian refugees who came to Australia 40 years ago with almost nothing. Now the girls are adults they have let their clutter accumulate so much it is choking the home, and Lina and Sokhoeurt are fed up with the stuff that's taken over their living space.
So the three sisters have reached out to Space Invaders for help to clear out the house. They also hope the renovation will increase the value of their parents' dated home for when they eventually sell it to downsize in their older years.
Decluttering expert Peter Walsh had his toughest challenge yet as he struggled to get the family to let go of the clutter they've left behind. Renovation queen Cherie Barber was also up against it to renovate five rooms!

Bathroom - Before
When Cherie first looked at the home she realised the property had good bones and excellent floorboards but she could tell it hadn't been renovated since the 1980s. Most of the rooms in the house were outdated and in need of repair, especially the bathroom. So she decided to transform the living room, kitchen and dining area, bathroom, master bedroom and spare bedroom.
"This reno is all about creating a beautiful space for the family to enjoy, but I also need to make sure the house has broad appeal for when they downsize in the future," she said.
To suit both those needs Cherie decided to go for a Hamptons style renovation with lots of white and neutral colours and bright open spaces.
Bathroom - After
The bathroom brought the whole renovation to a halt when Cherie discovered asbestos in the walls. This was one area of the renovation Cherie spared no expense on, so the site was shut down, and experts were brought in to safely remove the dangerous material.
Once that was done the renovation got back underway.
To inject some personality into the space, Cherie chose the beautifully patterned Australian-made tile Flourish Petal Coral for the bathroom floor. This was contrasted by a tiled feature wall of Atmosphere Coral Gloss against Atmosphere White Gloss Structured tiles on the other walls. "I'm going for a soothing elegant feel in the bathroom, by the time I've added a new vanity unit, shower and bathtub it will look amazing," she said.
The kitchen also got a refresh! To give it a completely new feel without breaking the budget, Cherie used one of her favourite reno tricks. Instead of replacing the entire bench, she had a thin benchtop installed on top of the existing one, which looks the same as a full bench replacement. Along with a newly tiled Penny Round White Gloss Mosaic splashback the kitchen was made to look new without even ripping out the cabinetry!
