Discover how this project went from a vision to a mood board to an in-store experience at Beaumont Tiles, and then finally, a real-life space.
It starts with mood board planning
When Emma Holmes, Director of the architecture and interior design studio, Formery, sat down with the owners of Northcote Renovation, she knew they had a unique project on her hands. The brief was to retain some of the original aspects of the clients’ old Californian Bungalow home, whilst modernising the most-used areas, such as the two bathrooms. They wanted to introduce colour and character into the space, keeping textures smooth and minimal. So, Formery’s first step in achieving this bold change was to create a mood board on Style Sourcebook.
Creating mood boards is a key part of the early design process for Formery as it helps in the ideation for projects, just like the Northcote Renovation. With the clients' vision in mind, Emma was able to begin creating their space by easily searching for specific products within the product library, such as green tiles and other complementing pieces.
“Thanks to Beaumont Tiles and Style Sourcebook, the Northcote Renovation came together seamlessly and we were thrilled to handover to our happy clients so they can enjoy their newly renovated home.” - Emma Holmes | Director, Formery

Selecting tiles & choosing colours
Once the vision for the bathroom was established on the mood boards, Emma met with the homeowners in-store at Beaumont Tiles, so that they could experience the various options in person. Describing the Beaumont’s team as “incredibly helpful”, both Emma and the clients were shown a range of bathroom tiles at various price points to ensure the selections matched both the budget and aesthetic preferences.
With the selections approved and signed off on at Beamont’s, Formery began working on bringing the bathroom spaces to life. With the client’s love of colour, the Atmosphere Zellige Forest Green Gloss, a slim, glossy subway tile, was chosen for the primary bathroom’s feature, and the gorgeous Atmosphere Sky Blue Gloss Structured Tile was selected for the ensuite to create contrast and difference between the two spaces.
Both bathrooms are complemented by the Pompeii Travertine Cenere Microtec Textured Tile, a larger grey format tile, which was selected for the floor and lower wall, with matching soft grey grout for a spacious feel. Even the consistency between the floor-to-wall tiles provides a juxtaposition against the coloured tiles, making each area appear larger.
These colours worked to achieve a playful and engaging aesthetic, with the subway feature tiles laid in a herringbone pattern, for a touch of timeless luxury and enhanced space perception.

Bring your vision to life!
Beyond the functionality of creating a spacious feel within the bathroom, Emma also applied her experience working on commercial hotel projects to maximise the use of the space. The reeded glass was added for privacy, while durable finishes, such as tapware, were added to complement the chosen colour scheme.
Seeing this project go from mood board to real-life space is such an incredible journey. Formery has achieved a brilliant balance of modern functionality and vibrant character within the Northcote Renovation. The bathroom tiles from Beaumont Tiles have perfectly accomplished the clients’ brief of creating a space filled with colour without losing the originality of the home.
