Kyal & Kara
Take 3 for the Sea
Take 3 for the Sea is an organisation close to Kyal and Kara's heart that has been created to bring awareness of the dangers plastic waste has to the ocean and how it contributes even further to polluting our planet. They have grown into a global movement 10 years on and received a grant from the Central Coast Council giving them the opportunity to build their very first office space. The employees, volunteers and Take 3 founders had to work either in shared spaces or work from home. This was inconvenient as paper files, event equipment and merchandise are not kept in a centralised space. With this opportunity, the super Ks help transforms Take 3's very first office space into a place into a sustainable hub where they are able to provide community events, workshops and the needs of the organisation but most importantly to continue the amazing work they do!

What is Take 3 for the Sea?
Our planet’s beaches, oceans and waterways are 10 million pieces of rubbish cleaner thanks to the work of Take 3 for the Sea. The organisation’s powerful philosophy of encouraging people to take just three pieces of rubbish with them when they leave resonates strongly with our brand ambassadors Kyal and Kara.
So when Take 3 for the Sea got their own offices, the Super Ks were keen to help out however they could. The building the organisation found had tonnes of potential, but it needed a bit of TLC to unlock it. Kyal and Kara knew there was an opportunity to use their design smarts and reno muscles to create the spaces the group deserved, in a sustainable and very budget-friendly way.

The Kitchen After
The kitchen was a key focus for Kyal and Kara’s talents. Appreciating the importance of a good kitchen in an office space as the site of serendipitous ideas, meetings and conversations the duo wanted to create a space that matched the personality of Take 3 for the Sea.
Kyal and Kara describe their vision for the kitchen as “creating a haven for the Take 3 for the Sea team to grow and nurture a new generation of sustainability leaders. Given that many good ideas stem from conversations over tea or coffee, having a fresh kitchen in an office space is a must.
What’s more, they created the kitchen on a tight budget. While the products and materials for the space were donated, this entire kitchen could be made with just $1,500 by a DIYer who bought everything at RRP.
The result is a beautifully warm retro vintage kitchen that celebrates natural textures and vintage finishes like the subtle feature of splashback tiles and dark blue cabinetry.

The Bathroom After
Especially for a group as passionate as Take 3 for the Sea, the office is like a home away from home. And that means having a bathroom that is up to scratch is important. When Kyal and Kara first saw the raw, unrenovated space the first word that came to mind was: dive.
Applying their keen understanding of style and flair for bathroom renovations, the Super Ks took this office bathroom from dive to alive. The brand new bathroom features a vibrant concrete look tile with a geometric pattern and continues the celebration of texture with a gorgeous timber vanity.

Without any external windows, Kyal and Kara chose to play on the moodiness of the room. The couple chose darker tiles to "create a different feel to the other light-filled rooms in the house." The combination of the colours and textures in the room brings a nautical feel to the room.

Wall Slab: Timeless Marfil GL-Porc 6mm
Floor Tile: Timeless Marfil GL-Porc 6mm
Feature Tile Behind Bath: Craquel Bone Gloss
For Kara, it was love at first sight when she headed into Beaumonts and saw our magnificent slab display. "At the beginning of the build, I locked in ‘Timeless Marfil’ from Beaumont Tiles. What’s unique about this tile is its size! Measuring 2397x797mm it’s a beauty! We were after a minimalistic, seamless look in this bathroom – so this tile is perfect with its early travertine look and minimal grout lines once laid."
The addition of the curved feature wall behind the bath was designed to bring a spa-like feeling to the room. Kara said, "I love how this little wall has turned out and changed the whole feel of the room."

Laundry
Floor Tile: Serie Grafton Tawny Satin
Wall Tile: Devonshire Seamist Gris Gloss
Tap: Bohole Sink Mixer LED Flexi Hose
On designing the laundry and mud room, Kara said "The ‘Serie Grafton Tawny’ patterned tile from Beaumont Tiles was my inspiration for this whole space. I knew I wanted to use it from the moment I saw it! As the tiles are a big feature, I’ve pulled back on colours elsewhere."
Mud Room
Floor Tile: Serie Grafton Tawny Satin
Kyal and Kara decided to dedicate a section of their laundry as a mud room as their laundry acts as a thoroughfare from the garage to the house and Kara believes "it will likely be the way we enter our home as a family day to day. We designed storage specific to the purpose of storing hats, bags, jackets and anything else that makes sense to store at the entry/exit of our home – plus somewhere to sit."
Master Ensuite
Tile: Kalkaria Beige*
After their experience on The Block where the couple fell in love with the underfloor heating and ambient, cost-effective heat it provided, they made sure to include Hotwire in their ensuite and said "we're already looking forward to winter showers with a warm floor!"
Kara confessed that the tile choices for the ensuite were more I’ve kept the look a bit more minimalistic than she would normally go for but said "The beautiful ‘Kalkaria’ tiles from Beaumont Tiles are 1200x600mm and are such a beautiful texture and colouring. They work well with our ‘Australian coastal meets Mediterranean villa’ theme."

Kyal and Kara chose tiles for their studio flooring because they "wanted the studio space to be super hard-wearing, to install underfloor heating to heat the space in the cooler months, and it also means I can run the same floor material throughout the whole space, including the bathroom."
Kyal and Kara chose our whitewashed timber-look tiles to create a great amount of texture and interest, without being too busy for the relaxed coastal vibe they were after.

Kara designed the studio bathroom around her love for the clay-look tiles. The bathroom features three different tile choices but Kara said " there are three different tiles within this bathroom, but everything works together so well. It’s a great example of using varying textures with similar colour tones to create a room that’s interesting and packs a punch."
