Robby & Mat
HOUSE 5
Robby and Mat’s bromance is about to hit renovation mode. Robby, a South Australian barber, will finally convince his best mate Mat — a hairdresser and complete Block rookie — to take on the challenge after years of pestering.
Mat, who hadn’t watched a single episode before applying, will arrive on set expecting Shelley Craft to be a judge. But what they’ll lack in experience, they’ll make up for in drive, humour, and teamwork.
“This guy will surprise everyone — including me,” Mat says of Robby, who recently became a dad.
These two mates will show what happens when you say yes to the unknown — and back each other the whole way.

WEEK 1:
MAIN BATHROOM
Last up are the boys — and wait, are those horizontal towel rails we see? Shaynna’s called in immediately and, right on cue, leads a round of applause. Darren dubs it the “Goldilocks room,” saying, “This is everything we’ve seen work in other rooms, all working extremely well together.” The praise keeps coming: the vanity is finally at the right height, the massive skylight and perfectly placed lighting impress, and Marty declares it “some of the best work” he’s seen in a Week 1 reveal. The warm, coffee-toned palette, dark timber accents, and thoughtful textures all hit the mark, with Darren noting their strong eye for detail and a style that suits Daylesford beautifully. It’s no shock when Robby and Mat take the win by a single point, and their reaction says it all. “We’ve been trying to keep a low profile and be the dark horse,” Mat says. “And you know what? They can hear us galloping now.”

“I love the Dekton. But the herringbone tile is out of place, from a real estate perspective it would be a 1 out of 10” |

Darren Palmer |
“I like the dark palette, the Dekton. Great use of the skylight. But the patterns and the lights give a mid-2010s nightclub vibe” |

WEEK 3:
MASTER ENSUITE
Robby and Mat bounced back with a luxe, textured ensuite featuring grasscloth wallpaper that Darren adored. Marty called it sophisticated and buyer-friendly, though he wished they’d swapped the shower seat for a second shower head. Shaynna felt it lacked bravery and soul, and criticised some cliché styling touches, but overall the judges agreed it was a classy, real-estate-friendly bathroom.

WEEK 5:
LIVING & DINING
Robby and Mat impressed the judges once again with their expanded living and dining space, but it was the fireplace that truly anchored the room. The carefully chosen tile finish gave the fireplace a refined, textural presence that balanced warmth with sophistication, tying together the neutral palette and natural light pouring in from the skylights. Its placement and finish elevated the entire design, becoming a focal point that grounded the open-plan layout while adding a touch of luxury to the boys’ communal, livable home.

WEEK 6:
HEPBURN BATHHOUSE CHALLENGE
Robby and Mat’s Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa won points for its pink wall tiles, which Neale felt paired beautifully with the rose gold tapware to create a considered and stylish presentation. However, the effect was let down by the choice of floor tile, which he found too busy and clashing against the softer tones. While the wall tiles elevated the space with warmth and character, the floor finish ultimately disrupted the balance, leaving the design feeling less cohesive than it could have been.

WEEK 6:
RUMPUS ROOM
Robby and Mat’s rumpus room fell short of expectations, but it highlights an important design lesson: tiles can completely transform a space. The judges noted the room lacked warmth and connection to Daylesford’s character, which could have been addressed through a thoughtful tile choice. Using natural stone-look or textural tiles on the floor or even as a feature wall would have instantly added depth, emotion, and a sense of place. It’s a reminder that the right tile doesn’t just finish a room – it anchors the styling, sets the tone, and can turn an otherwise flat space into something inviting and memorable.

WEEK 7:
KITCHEN
Robby and Mat’s kitchen won praise for its cosy yet sophisticated feel, with the judges calling it luxurious, timeless, and full of heart. A key element elevating the space was their choice of the Crossland Match Square Textured Mosaic Tile for the splashback, which added depth, texture, and a handcrafted touch that perfectly balanced the grandeur of the island bench and the warmth of their country-estate aesthetic. While minor details like a plastic container and the practicality of their secret door drew comment, the Crossland mosaic splashback grounded the design in timeless elegance, ensuring the kitchen felt both elevated and inviting.

WEEK 9:
LAUNDRY, MUD ROOM, PANTRY & WC
It’s been a rollercoaster inspection week for Robby and Mat, but they managed to deliver five completed rooms and a big call with their European laundry hidden behind cabinetry. While the judges first worried it was form over function, the expanded pantry quickly won them back. With French Pattern tiles that perfectly capture the country aesthetic, paired with a farmhouse sink, fridge and freezer, the space ticks all the right amenity boxes and even had Darren reassessing his stance on the laundry decision. Shaynna was drawn straight into the bold powder room with its tropical wallpaper and chandelier, which felt surprisingly fitting for Daylesford, while the mud room styling left less of an impression thanks to awkward tile placement and missing hanging space. Their garage rounded things out with little more than a car cleaning kit on show, but overall, it was a strong recovery week that had the judges rethinking some of their earlier doubts.

WEEK 11:
BACKYARD & POOL
Robby and Mat wrapped up the week in true style — with a backyard that’s as bold as it is beautiful. Their outdoor space blends luxury and practicality, anchored by a striking Trendz fireplace and complemented by sustainable landscaping that thrives naturally. Around the pool, Beaumont Tiles’ Vanguard Blue Macauba Gloss Glass Structured Mosaic adds a stunning pop of colour and movement, perfectly reflecting the water’s shimmer. Inside the cabana, the Relic Travertine Finger Natural Honed Mosaic brings texture and warmth, balancing modern design with natural charm. From pickleball courts to poolside perfection, House 5’s backyard proves why the boys are serious contenders.

WEEK 7:
MEZZANINE ENSUITE
House 4's day spa-inspired bathroom, though plagued by tiling issues, was ultimately a success. Despite its $28,148 price tag, the judges were impressed by the overall design and aesthetic. Darren praised the timber-look tiles and the blush pink basin, while Shaynna appreciated the unique artwork and James Hardie groove. Marty, however, had mixed feelings about the bathroom, criticizing the tile choice in the shower and the color of the walls. Despite some critiques, the judges agreed that Kylie and Brad had made significant progress and created a special bathroom.

WEEK 10:
LAUNDRY & GUEST BEDROOM
Kylie and Brad were pleased with their black and white guest bedroom and laundry, but the judges had mixed reactions. They praised the styling but criticized the layout and acoustics. Marty felt the room lacked the warmth of their downstairs rooms, while Shaynna thought the upstairs space was inconsistent. Kylie and Brad were frustrated by the feedback and felt they weren't being heard.

WEEK 12:
BACKYARD
House 4, facing a challenging week, presented a "low maintenance" backyard designed for a holiday home lifestyle. While the judges initially praised the pool area's potential, they were disappointed by the small deck and wasted space. The pool tiles and the execution of the firepit area were also criticised. Overall, the judges felt that the backyard lacked emotional connection and was poorly planned, with little consideration for the buyer's perspective. Despite the shortcomings, Darren acknowledged that the yard wouldn't deter a potential buyer, but it certainly didn't stand out compared to the other houses.
