WHAT’S MY STYLE?

During the main bathroom week we loved Darren and Deanne’s chic monochrome feature floor; and what about Jenna and Chris’s 10/10 bathroom with those black hexagonal tiles behind the basin!

Carlene and Michael showed real design prowess experimenting with different tile textures and layout; Maxine and Karsten layered their bathroom using a single colour polished porcelain as the style base; while Simon and Shannon looked to shaped hexagonal tiles for their floor and wall design inspiration.

Taking inspiration from the show, Rachel Gilding, our in-house strategic designer says creating an overstated feature in one area - the living room, bathroom or kitchen - is a sure way to impress guests. Not only does it have a high visual impact, but it allows you to incorporate new trends in the home without spending a fortune in a complete overhaul.

Here are her five design directions to help get your overstated feature started.

• Bring your wall to life: Use 3D structured tiles to add life and movement to a room as they play with light and shifting shadows. Bold colours create a vibrant and playful element and neutral 3Ds are great for the more conservative renovator. • Feature floors: Patterned tiles have a bold affect so check out pictures of famous hotels or Roman bath houses for inspiration. As seen recently on The Block Glasshouse, using two alternating colours such as Black and White creates a timeless elegant chic. • Brighten up your wall: Partnering bold colours with textures is in. Consider creating a floor to ceiling feature wall masterpiece using Beaumont Tiles’ Art and Shine trend concept for an edgy and vibrant look. • Go Geo: Geometric shapes add art deco suave. A feature wall can create a sleek classic feel or a quirky nook. To get started focus on one area and get creative with shapes, patterns, colours and layout. • Keep it natural: The natural look is in. Creating a feature floor or wall using wood-look tiles is one way you can really bring the outdoors in. If you’ve got the space, try a ‘hole in the wall’ window feature teamed with beautiful natural stone tiles.
